PSU 2016/2017 Entrance Exam

Puntland State University held 2016/2017 University Entrance Exam as scheduled on Monday September 26, 2016. Hundreds of newly students graduated from secondary schools sat for the entrance exam at PSU Garowe main campus for the academic year 2016/2017. This exam is a common practice and it is a prerequisite for entrance into PSU and it is mainly required on undergraduate level admission. The most common form for an entrance exam is a written test, even if the candidate school certificates are up to the required standards, it may not be granted a study placement if the candidate score less than adequately in his/her entrance examination. The final student selections can be quite competitive and entrance exam plays major role in the selection process. The entrance exam for the second batch of candidates has been scheduled on Saturday October 01st, 2016.

PSU Garowe ends the 3rd semester exams in the academic year of 2015/2016.

Puntland State University (PSU) Garowe Main Campus has successfully ended the Third Semester Examination in the academic year of 2015/2016. The university administration stated that the results will be announced on 25 September 2016. Students will have a one month break from studies before the commencement of the first Semester of the  2016/2017 academic Year. The vice chancellor of PSU, Mohamud Sh. Hamud, warmly congratulated all students who successfully completed the third semester and encouraged them to focus and work hard for their future.

Students Counseling & Career Guiding Workshop

A one day free career counselling workshop was held on 10th August 2016 on the PSU main campus in which nearly 400 high school graduate students from Puntland secondary schools and colleges participated The goal of the workshop was to help prospective students uncover their hidden talents through interactive counselling by experts, an open round of questioning and expert advice from PSU faculty Deans and lecturers from various fields. Ahmed Abshir, Deputy Vice Chancellor in Finance and Administration, welcomed all guests and participants and emphasized the need and importance of such career counselling programs for students. He also said that the youth is full of talent. If the talent is harnessed properly, it will not be lost. The workshop was convened by the office of the Registrar along with co-conveners of the office of Academic Affairs and with the support of Faculty deans. In the closing session of the workshop Mahamud Hamid Mohamed, Vice Chancellor of PSU, briefed the participants about how such events help them in shaping their career and said that if the students get the right direction at the right time, it will be boost their confidence. He also highlighted the objectives and importance of career counseling programs. The workshop received huge appreciation from the participating students who said they would like to have such events on a regular basis. The effort of the entire PSU Team was applauded by all present.

Visit of Puntland High-Level Delegation to the East African Countries

A Puntland high level delegation led by the Puntland Minister of labor, Youth and Sports and comprising of most notably PSU Vice Chancellor, Mahamud Hamud Mohamed and PSU Deputy Vice Chancellor in Academic Affairs, Burhan Adam Omar visited Kenyan, Tanzanian and Ethiopian universities and other institutions. The purpose of this visit was to share in the knowledge and expertise of the civil service training institutes in these three countries. The delegation also sought to find partner institution for with PSU, which will train Puntland civil servants. In Kenya the delegation held consultations with the World Bank. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the process of the Civil Service Recruitment and Training Project supported by the World Bank. The delegation also met with the Kenya School of Government on 6 June 2016 to learn more about the type of trainings the school provides to Kenya civil servants. In Tanzania the delegation met with the Tanzania Public Service College (TPSC) and discussed how the two sides can exchange knowledge and experience related to the training of civil servants. The delegation continued its journey with a visit to Ethiopia where they met with the Ethiopian Civil Service University (ECCU). ECCU officials and the delegates discussed collaborating in training Puntland civil servants. In all three countries, the discussions focused primarily on enhancing the partnership between the civil service training institutes and PSU which will train Puntland civil servants.

Higher Education Institutions Football Tournament 2016

On May 15 2016, Nugal Football Federation (NFF) launched the Higher Education Institutions Football Tournament (HEFT) 2016 at the Mire Aware Stadium. The tournament is supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports. PSU students participated in the tournament with another four football teams from the other higher educations institutions in Garowe.

PSU launches Training Program on ‘land Administration, Management and Governance’

On Monday May 23 2016 PSU launched the first training on Land Administration, Management and Governance in collaboration with HAYAN, NRC and UN-Habitat. The training, ‘Land Administration, Management and Governance’ is the first one on the thematic area of land management and is intended to build state and municipal government capacity to make informed decisions on land issues caused by the rapidly growth of cities and the land conflicts. Twenty participants from the Ministry of Public works, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Agriculture, Courts, Public Notaries and Garowe Municipality are participating in this five day training. At the end of the training, participants will have an increased awareness of broader issues and pressures related to urbanization and its impact on land.

PSU Galkaio: 2nd Graduation Ceremony

On Friday 13th May 2016 PSU Galkaio campus held a graduation ceremony for the second batch of graduates to graduate from Puntland State University Galkaio Campus. The ceremony was attended by the Governor of the Mudug Region of Puntland Hasan Mahamed khalif, Mudug Regional Education Officer, Bashiir Axmed Khalaf, representatives of the business community, parents, university deans and lecturers. Thirteen students out of the thirty-five graduating students have earned a Bachelor degree in Business administration from the Department of Business Administration at the Faculty of Business and Economics. Twelve students graduated as Bachelor of Arts in Development Studies from the department of Development Studies at the Faculty of Social Science. The remaining ten students graduated from the Faculty of Education. The Deputy Vice Chancellor for Puntland State University, Mr. Burhan Adam Omar officially conferred the degrees to the graduating students and gave remarks of encouragement and congratulation. The colorful ceremony was followed by a group photo session for the the graduands, family members and other guests. Puntland State University congratulates all of its alumni for their great acheivments.

Certificates of Appreciation

A Peace Building and Development study conducted in Nugal region of Puntland by Puntland State Universty (PSU) recognized and appreciated the role of traditional leaders and activists in community peace building and development. They have dedicated their time, resources and their souls to the well being of their communication. In a celebratory ceremony hosted by PSU, these traditional leaders and activists were awarded Certificates of Appreciation by PSU as well as the Puntland ‎Vice‬ ‎President‬, ‪‎Abdihakim Abdullahi Omar Amey‬ and the Puntland Minister of Education, Abshir Aw Yusuf Cise and other senior cabinet officials. The traditional leaders (ISIM’s) were awarded for their Active role in conflict resolution, peace building and leadership. The awarded ISIM’s were: – Islan Isse Islaan Mohamed islan Muse, – Sulan‬ Said Mohamed Garase and – Suldan Abdullahi haji Nur (Arabdur). The university and ministers also awarded Warsame Abdullahi Diriye for his active role and courage in peace building and conflict resolution in the community. Well-known activist Abdiraxman Abdulle Osman (Shuke), former Director of the Peace&Development Research Center, was awarded for his active role in contributing to good governance in Puntland. Lastly, the university awarded Mohamed Yusuf Tigey for his voluntary work in promoting the natural beauty and resources of Puntland. The award ceremony showcased these recipients’ contribution to society and serves to further motivate and encourage them to continue their valuable work. As PSU Vice Chancellor Mahamud Hamid Mohamed stated during the ceremony, the university plans to expand the award beyond Nugal province to include the other provinces of Puntland. Puntland State University wants to send the message that everyone who stands up and plays important role in the social development of their community will be recognized and rewarded for their effort, as Allah will award them with paradise in the hereafter. Puntland State University 2016 Graduation Ceremony

Puntland State University Held Successful Graduation On April 13, 2016 at Puntland State University’s main campus in Garowe. The ceremony was attended by Puntland Vice President Abdihakim Abdullahi Omar Amey accompanied by Ministry of Education and Higher Education and senior Cabinet officials, Representatives from UN Agencies, International NGOs, Business People, Parents, University Deans, Lecturers and the Graduates. The master of ceremony called Sheikh Said Ahmed Farah to open the ceremony with word of prayer. Among the highlights of the ceremony was a speech by the Vice Chancellor of Puntland State University Mr Mohamud Hamid Mohamed, he gave a warm greeting to the crowd and congratulation for the graduates. The Vice Chancellor briefed the historical evolution of Puntland State University, also he mentioned that 45% of the graduates are already employed which shows their quality and quality of knowledge and skills they received, “Today you are independent in mind “come up with a critical thinking instead of accepting everything” said the Vice Chancellor Mahamud Hamid Mohamed The vice Chancellor briefed the relationship that the university created with many international educational institutions in the world. And concluded his speech with many thanks to all invited that showed up for the wonderful graduation ceremony and best wishes to the graduates for their future endeavors. Mohamed Yusuf Tigey in his voluntarily Active  role in presenting Gorgeousness and Resource in Pnntland The students who graduated in this year were: The second Batch of the Department of Economics of the Faculty Business Administration, Economics and Statistics with bachelors of Economics and The second Batch of the Department of the Development Studies of the Faculty of Social Science with bachelors of Bachelor of Arts in Development Studies. After the colorful ceremony the graduands, family members and other participants had photo group with the Vice President and concluded the crowd. Puntland State University Graduation is the formal university-wide celebration at which mostly Puntland President officially confers degrees upon graduating students. The ceremony features a processional of graduates and faculty, remarks from the President, and a vibrant keynote speakers.
