PSU Students Development Association(PSUSDA) Election 2018

PSU Students Development Association(PSUSDA) election has been officially opened on scheduled time, Thursday March 29, 2018. Deans of all the Faculties, Vice Chancellor, Deputy Vice Chancellor of PSU and other senior Government Officials were present at the election. PSU Garowe main Campus students have been voting to elect the students who will lead PSU Student Development Association (PSUSDA) over the next year. After weeks of campaigning and candidate forums, students at Puntland State University Garowe Campus have elected Ahmed Nahar Said who was one of 2 candidates as the ChairPerson of PSUSDA during 2018 academic year. It is PSU responsibility to facilitate these elections through the regulation of candidates, planning of events, and administration of voting platforms. PSU is incredibly proud of the amount of students that voted! and would like to thank everyone who took the time to vote and all the candidates who have spent time, speaking to students and encouraging them to get involved in their Union. During Elections, eligible students put themselves forward for nomination and run as candidates, and student members’ vote for their preferred candidate to win. The winning candidate form the chairperson of the Student Union Executive Committee, who are there to represent the views of students to the University and wider community, and ensure the Union operates according to its policies, procedures and strategy.

Higher Education Institutions Football Tournament 2016

On May 15 2016, Nugal Football Federation (NFF) launched the Higher Education Institutions Football Tournament (HEFT) 2016 at the Mire Aware Stadium. The tournament is supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports. PSU students participated in the tournament with another four football teams from the other higher educations institutions in Garowe.

World Health Day 2016 commemorated at PSU

GAROWE, 7 April 2016– The Public Health Students Association, commemorated the World Health Day at the Puntland State University (PSU), with theme of “Beat diabetes”. The commemoration ceremony focused on ways to halt the rise of diabetes worldwide. The Puntland State University students presented the “Key findings from WHO’s “Global report on diabetes” and Global commitments to reduce diabetes. The Puntland State University (PSU) vice chancellor Mohamud Sh. Hamud appreciated the Public Health Student Association for their active role to promoting Public Health. He encouraged students to make such awareness presentation in the different locations in Garowe and also other districts in the country. Mr. Hamud promised he would personally support this awareness to spread the message. Mr Abdullahi Ali Jama the Director of the Higher Education of the Puntland Ministry of Education and Higher Education appreciated this commemoration and thanked PSU specially Public Health Student and Officially Closed the ceremony. PSU Students Development Association(PSUSDA) election has been officially opened on scheduled time, Thursday afternoon November 05, 2015. Deans of all the Faculties, Vice Chancellor, Deputy Vice Chancellor of PSU, Puntland Minister of Education and Higher Education, State Minister of the Puntland Ministry of Health, Directot General of the Ministery of Information, and other Government Officials were present at the election. PSU Garowe main Campus students have been voting to elect the students who will lead PSU Student Development Association (PSUSDA) over the next year. After weeks of campaigning and candidate forums, students at Puntland State University Garowe Campus have elected Osman Abdullahi Ali who was one of 3 candidates as the ChairPerson of PSUSDA during 2015/2016 academic year. It is PSU responsibility to facilitate these elections through the regulation of candidates, planning of events, and administration of voting platforms. Students of the Faculty of Sharia and Law at the Puntland State University launch a Human Rights Club

On 8 June, 2015 Garoowe: Students of Sharia and Law Faculty for the Puntland State University (PSU) launched a Human Rights Club in the presence of Puntland government officials, PSU students and lectures. The Deputy Vice Chancellor and the Dean of Sharia and Law Faculty Burhan Adan Omar, have enlightened the development stages and achievements of the Puntland State University in general and Faculty of Sharia and Law in Particular. He stated that most of graduates at Faculty of Sharia and Law are currently holding good positions in the government, while some of them are part of prestigious organizations and companies in Puntland. He added that it was a great honor in achieving this success. Mr. Burhan added that the Human Rights Club would be an integral part in strengthening justice, and human rights as well as being a unique mechanism in building the capacity of PSU students. Meanwhile the chairman of the Human Rights Club for the Law faculty students Mustafe Ali Elmi said that the purpose of founding the club is to defend the rights of citizens adding that his club had already started its duty in protecting, and advocating the rights of the community. Mr. Ali Mohamed (Gargaar) , Director for Administration Department for the ministry religious Affairs, said his ministry is enthusiastically welcoming the inception of the Human Rights Club because the ministry has played a key role in establishing the faculty of Sharia and Law at the Puntland State University. Puntland Human Rights Defender Mohamed Yusuf Ali who closed the ceremony of launching Human Rights club for the students of Sharia and Law faculty urged the members and all students to protect individual and common rights of Somali people.

Puntland State University and the Puntland Ministry of Health jointly commemorate the World Malaria Day 2015

Garoowe 24 April, 2015— The Public Health Students Association for Puntland State University (PSU) and the Puntland Ministry of Health (MoH) jointly commemorated the World Malaria Day . The role of the health students in observing Malaria Day was remarkable as students presented research studies on Malaria, and its prevention techniques. The Deputy Vice Chancellor of the Puntland State University (PSU) Burhan Adan Omar, who spoke at the occasion stated that the university has always played an active role in eradicating malaria from Puntland. He added that University health students participated many awareness campaigns, and spread messages among community members Meanwhile the Public Health Students Association performed drama on public awareness and prevention of Malaria. They had exposed messages in which they encouraged participants to take proper measures in eliminating Malaria. The Puntland minister of health Sadik Enow said that it was the responsibility for every citizen to take part extend message about Malaria through community members. The minister added that Puntland made some developments on the fight against Malaria.
